Yarm & Eaglescliffe FC

History – 2017 – 2023

Yarm & Eaglescliffe FC were formed in 2017. The founders were aware of the lack of a competitive, men’s football team in the area. Previously there have been successful teams, at a local level, notably Preston FC who played in the Stockton Saturday League and the George and Dragon FC who won the Stockton Sunday League Cup (Ian Gorman Cup) in 1999.

Many successful Professional and Northern League footballers have come from Yarm & Eaglescliffe including Matthew Bates, Rob Jones, Chris Hogg, Bailey Peacock-Farrell and the late, great John Jackson.

Yarm & Eaglescliffe FC played their first competitive match in August 2017 against Grangetown Boys Club at Conyers School, Yarm. The match was narrowly won 3-2 by Grangetown. The Y&E’s first ever goal was scored by Calum Steven’s. In fact the Y&E lost their first 7 League matches in a row, a difficult start in the newly formed Mens North Riding Premier League. However, the team soon found their feet and ended the season on 26th points to finish in 9th position.

2018/19 was the Y&E’s second season. It was a tremendously successful season as the Y&E finished third in the League and lifted the North Riding Saturday County Cup, beating local rival’s Thornaby Dubliners in the final. Sean Mackin finished the season as top scorer and Centre Half Cameron Wild was voted Players Player of the season.

The 2019/20 season was another successful season for the club up until it was suspended due to Covid-19. Yarm & Eaglescliffe at the time of suspension were sitting in 2nd place in the league. The FA declared the season null and void on 23rd March 2020 and all results null and void.

Special mentions must go to Glenn Kyle who has managed the team since it’s formation in 2017, Luke Allen the Club Secretary and former President Marty Clennett who have all worked tirelessly to make Yarm a competitive team.

James Francis joined the club at the start of the 2019/20 season as Chairman and under his leadership it continues to keep Yarm & Eaglescliffe moving in the right direction.

The Y&E achieved FA Charter Standard in February 2020 which is another big step forward for the club.

The 2020/21 Season was halted early due to Covid but started again with a mini league competition and the North Riding Cup, the team finished mid table but had a great cup run getting to the final. Sadly the Y&E lost 3-1 to Boro Rangers but more progress and a second cup final in such a short history is a great achievement.

2021 also saw the launch of the Yarm&Eaglescliffe development team which will compete in the North Riding division one in the 2021/22 season. Another significant step forward for this great club.

The 2021/22 season was yet more progress for the Y&E and the lads managed to go the whole season unbeaten, sadly we just missed out in the title and finished second after a few draws but a superb achievement that the team is very proud of.

The 2022/23 season the lads moved to Bedford Terrace to ground share with Billingham Town, a decision that allows us to progress further as a club. The lads reached the north riding county cup final, sadly losing on pens to Richmond Town. The team had another strong performance in the league finishing second.
